22 January 2018.- Central Lechera Asturiana, a leading company in the Spanish dairy industry, commemorates today its first fifty years of existence. The celebration consisted in an event held this morning in the Company’s factory in Siero (Asturias). Felipe VI, King of Spain, presided it.

Mr. Bertino Velasco, the president of CAPSA FOOD and Central Lechera Asturiana welcomed them. Velasco commented on the significance of the day as one full of “emotion and pride” and highlighted that Central Lechera Asturiana is an “instrument owned by a cooperative partnership that ensures a future for the livestock sector and is guided by the values of fairness, transparency, corporate responsibility and concern for the other”. The President acknowledged the presence of His Majesty Felipe VI and then began with a review of the milestones achieved by the company throughout a history of 50 years in the livestock sector cooperative.

The King visited the Factory. First, he saw the areas where the product is packaged in Brik or bottles. He also was in the automated warehouse, where more than 1,000 people, partner farmers and employees, were waiting for him. There, a commemorative plate was unveiled and signed by the King. During the visit to the factory, he could see two of the best cows in the region, named Alexander Merche and Cokketa. The cows’ owner, Paulino Badiola, shared with His Majesty some of the details that make these two animals stand out from the rest.

The Minister, Mrs. Isabel Garcia Tejerina, pointed out that today’s event should be considered an act of acknowledgement and gratitude towards the all the cooperative partners who, 50 years ago, decided to associate to defend the interests of their sector and to make things better.

Central Lechera Asturiana was founded in 1968, when the association Grupo Sindical de Colonización embarked on the initiative of the opening of a plant for the large scale production Asturian milk. The initiative was intended to avoid the fluctuations in the price of the milk, due to a severe crisis that affected the sector in mid-1960.
